Hwy. 3132 Buckles in Heat....Not Cost Effective for I-49

I49Report Says: There apparently is a small group of Wealthy Landowners
and extremely Powerful Businesspersons who want I-49 to go West once
it gets to I-220, rather than coming into the "Heart of The City". How
Would This Benefit the Citizens of Shreveport (entire Ark-La-Tex Region) to
route I-49 over I-220 Bridge AND EVERY DAY ENDANGER OUR "CROSS LAKE
WATER SUPPLY" TO MUCH MORE TOXIC TRUCK TRAFFIC?

How Would it Benefit our Region's new HILTON SHREVEPORT HOTEL that sits in
Downtown Shreveport and needs I-49 to come within 3 or 4 blocks of it and
the impressive Convention Center?

How Would it Benefit the 5 MAJOR CASINOS that ALL SIT ON THE BANKS OF THE
RED RIVER, whom thrive (and generate more tax revenue) with more Tourists?
We would be sending the Tourists West on I-49 instead of unimpeeded within 2
miles of "All the Fun"....AND REVENUE FOR THE REGION.

How Would it Benefit the MAJOR CAR DEALERSHIPS and LARGEST AND NICEST
RESTAURANTS in the Region that operate in the middle and South Central
Shreveport? Why would we send the potential customers "around the
City"...instead of through the City?

The "Answer" appears to be for I-49 (in Shreveport) to travel 3 1/2
important miles from I-220 to I-49 at I-20 (at Murphy Street)....basically
the shortest distance between two points....instead of 14 miles around the
City. And oh yes, with Hwy 3132 crumbling in extreme heat, 7-24-08 (Click
here for Times Article
)....it's not hard to conclude it will
BE MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE TO REBUILD THAT LONGER 14-MILE ROAD THAN IT WILL BE
TO BUILD A SHORTER ROAD (of 6 Lanes)....THROUGH THE CITY.

If You Have a Better Answer...we are certainly listening and open-minded for
debate and dialogue.
